What to Measure From Day One
Four numbers. Not sales, not yet.
Measure these
| Number | How often | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Posts published | Weekly | The only one fully in your control |
| Comments received | Weekly | The input the whole model runs on |
| Conversations opened | Weekly | Where money is actually made |
| Clicks out | Weekly | The last step before a sale |
Do not measure sales in month one
Sales are a lagging indicator with a long delay. Watching them weekly in month one produces a flat line, and a flat line at week three is what makes people quit exactly before the part that works.
Why measuring matters more than it sounds
Profit is four levers multiplied, and the smart move is always to improve whichever is currently cheapest. You cannot pick the cheapest lever if you cannot see any of them, so without measurement everyone defaults to chasing traffic — the most expensive lever there is.
Four numbers in a spreadsheet, updated weekly, is enough. This is not a tooling problem.
